This hotel is really quite unique. It's built into a former department store. They've maintained some of the theme of the old store. First, my room with two queens was huge! It felt more like an apartment than a hotel room with sitting area, refrigerator/microwave, and a massive bathroom with both standing shower and tub. Second, the location is convenient. Right in the heart of downtown with its shopping and eating places. Third, the staff was very friendly. The hotel does have some age on it, like the climate control was a dial, but it's well maintained and plenty of wall outlets. It was definetly a unique find in Asheville.

Nice hotel but a few things keep it from getting a 5 star review. First the good, huge rooms and were clean. Front desk and valet are great. Valet was always quick. The hotel lobby is beautiful and it’s really neat how it used to be an old department store. The bad, only 1 working elevator. Frequently had to ride the elevator during the day with cleaning people with huge carts. They also don’t make your bed. They do refresh the towels and empty the trash but they’re listed as a 4 star hotel, daily bed making and evening turn down is usually the norm at 4 star hotels. Also the beds had these bars sticking out the bottom with raw metal edges. I scraped my ankle on it and so did my husband. This needs to be addressed as it’s not safe. Also bell hops to bring your luggage up and down would be nice. And lastly they have ancient style thermostats that you can not see what temp you have the room on it’s just a dial that goes cold to warm. Overall this hotels selling point is their huge rooms but they lack in amnenities where with a bit of extra effort it could really shine.

Great hotel, would definitely go back next time we visit Asheville.

I love that this hotel is an old Ivey's Department Store. They even kept the signage and announcer in the elevator. Besides that, this is a beautiful hotel right in the middle of Asheville shops and restaurants. The rooms are unbelievably huge -- almost like an apartment. We will definitely stay here again.

Nicely located in the downtown area, stores, Rupp Arena, eateries, etc.
