Great location that was ...

Great location that was super convenient. Our room was large, clean and nice. There were some annoying street noises at night and the AC can take a while to make it to the bedroom. Our biggest issue staying here was the “complimentary” valet parking which implied that parking was free at the hotel but it’s not. It’s $17 a night and there were no signs nor did anyone mention it. We were renting a car and had we known, we would have returned our rental early.

Our flight was cancelled ...

Our flight was cancelled so I asked ChatGPT to find me an affordable boutique hotel in downtown Ashville. We chose the Haywood hotel. This grand old hotel gave us a huge 750 square foot room for $200 a night. They handed us a welcome glass of champagne and gave us a nice view overlooking the Battery Park neighborhood. The room had large windows, a living room, large work desk and elegant abstract art. I was impressed by the sliding doors that revealed the TV and coffee station. The deep bed was marshmallow soft under a thick comforter. The huge bathroom featured a tv and phone obviously from another era. Speaking of another era, the hotel elevators announced our floor as Children’s wear, keeping it’s history alive as a former Bon Marche department store. Each floor features a seating areas which are in need of lighting and furniture updates. The newer hotels in the area feature hip gathering spaces with refreshments. This hotel had no functioning vending machines or shop for forgotten necessities. The Hotel offered a $15 dollar discount to the French restaurant on the first floor so we had some of their home made pastries and yougurt while listening to the street musician on the opposite corner. We continued our walking tour around the hotel visiting the clothing and design shops of the battery park neighborhood, taking in the stunning architecture of the Haywood Park Atrium.

The room was very nice and super clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. My only real problem is that parking in the area is a nightmare if you aren't familiar with the area
